2006 UI Excellence in Teaching Award

Amin Ahmadzadeh, assistant professor of animal and veterinary science, came to the University of Idaho in 2000. Ahmadzadeh has been a main contributor to the resurgence of the dairy science program at the University of Idaho. He has successfully secured grants supporting research related to the dairy industry. Ahmadzadeh also helped re-establish the dairy judging team after its five-decade absence. He coaches the Dairy

Challenge Team, the capstone of a dairy management degree, and serves as adviser to the University’s Dairy Club.

The Animal and Veterinary Science Intercollegiate National Dairy Challenge Team are Second Place Platinum award winners in the Fourth Annual North American Intercollegiate Dairy Challenge (NAIDC) held April 8-9, State College, Pa. The students received $100 scholarships.

The event attracted 27 teams from the United States and Canada, challenging them to put their textbook and practical knowledge to the ultimate test - analyzing dairies. The format started with a walk-through at the dairies, followed by the opportunity to ask questions of the owners and analyze  farm-specific data. Student teams used this information to develop management recommendations, and then presented their management recommendations to a panel of five dairy industry judges.
