  Dairy Production

The AVS Dairy Production program serves Idaho´s fastest growing commodity-based industry. The Idaho Dairy industry currently has gross revenues exceeding $480 million, exceeded only by beef and potato revenues, and cow numbers are projected to continue growing by 5%-10% per year. This growth, while most certainly welcome from the state economy point of view, continues to place a heavy load on the faculty, staff, and facilities involved in the Dairy Production program. The AVS Department conducts research and extension programs in the areas of dairy cow nutrition, lactation physiology, reproductive physiology, herd health, milk quality and safety, and breeding and genetics. Strong cooperative programs exist with allied industry and cooperator herds across the State. Excellent relationships exist with the United Dairymen of Idaho (UDI) and association support is substantial.

Clientele served include milk producers, dairy allied industries, students, milk processors, dairy consultants, youth, and extension educators.
