Alexander Hristov
The research of our laboratory is focused on nitrogen metabolism in the rumen, ammonia utilization, contribution of soluble and non-protein nitrogen to the non-microbial N flow to the intestine, manipulation of rumen fermentation and methods of improving the efficiency of microbial protein synthesis in the rumen. An important part of our program is studying feed N metabolism in the ruminant by intrinsic labeling of plant N fractions using stable isotopes (15N). This technique allows obtaining 15N-labeled plant N fractions having different rate and extent of digestion and quantitative measurement of the metabolic transactions occurring in the rumen and post-ruminally..
